A world of purposeful work. ¡Que milagro!

The unexceptional.

This is a typographic exercise I did about six months ago while still at Bussolati.

A great quote from Robert California from The Office (the current season of which I have not watched at all, I’m sad to say).

“There’s something about the underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.”

Exercise was inspired by Jessica Hische’s work for the ADC Paper Expo. Hers is a papercut-inspired piece and mine is a Jessica Hische-inpsired-set of broken blinds.

Btw Jessica wrote a wonderful piece on Inspiration vs. Imitation, and although I’m committing the faux-pas of publishing “practice” work, this piece was just too fun not to share.

Although it’s the only studio class so far to make me feel completely incompetent, I’m going to miss screenprinting. It’s strangely satisfying. I never expected to want to make illustrative work like this, but being in this class unlocked this really weird desire to draw characters. I’m probably not going to do well in that… [Continue Reading]

    Don’t tell.

Show, don’t tell. How can we do more of that in our businesses, in our personal lives, in our internal dialogues? Just something to focus on for the next indefinite stretch of time.
