A world of purposeful work. ¡Que milagro!

Have a good meeting.

How can you challenge yourself to make a tiny improvement to a routine task?

While sitting in a meeting last week, I realized that the way people took notes sharply impacted their ability to implement meaningful change after a meeting. That made me wonder if making changes to the note-taking environment (i.e., the paper you take notes on) can change behavior in the days following a meeting.

I designed a simple note-taking template that invites you to write things down as three categories: 1) general notes, or the pure information you receive during the meeting, 2) ideas for later, or stuff that pops into your head that you won’t address at the moment, but want to remember, and 3) action items. Since information overwhelm can stunt productivity, I believe that organizing your notes in this manner will help you work better.

Want to help me test my hypothesis? Print out the template below, use it for your next meeting, and let me know how it goes.

Hope it helps!

5 tips for brave hearts on the edge of new careers (or, “how to get out of bed in the morning”)

I’ve recently been invited to share my experiences with soon-to-be graduates. I guess the reasoning was that I’m still young enough to relate, and supposedly a few years wiser. Also, my career choices have proven me to be just a little crazy, which, for some reason, people find inspiring. So, here are some ideas I’d… [Continue Reading]

On finding out what you love to do

This is a question I’ve spent the last nine months trying to answer for myself. I’m not sure that I’ll love my current… [Continue Reading]

A Custom Wedding Gift: An Engagement Story Comic

This was a really lovely project to take on. Tec contacted me with a request to help him make a special gift to his bride-to-be, Amy. He wanted to surprise her on their wedding day by giving her a poster that tells the (funny) story of their engagement. I ended up illustrating a comic that used… [Continue Reading]

A Special Sign for A Bridal Shower

A Maid of Honor looking to make her bride’s Parisian-themed bridal shower extra special approached me for help. She asked if I could make a chalkboard sign for the party that celebrates the special love of the bride and groom. The result is a large poster that the MoH was able to take to her… [Continue Reading]
